Wednesday, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm – Taking the Internal Revenue Code 831(b) Election
and The Relationship to Series LLC
Ballantyne, Fairway Ballroom
As small to mid-size companies move toward more sophisticated structures to manage their cost
of insurance, growth in captives with premiums less than $1.2 million is increasing proportionately.
However, simply having the qualifying premium threshold is not enough. The popularity of Series LLC’s
being licensed as captives is also growing. This session will deal with the basic criteria in order to best
position your captive to qualify for the 831(b) election, discuss Series LLC basics and how to use them
in conjunction with qualifying 831(b) captives |
| 2:00 pm – 2:15 pm |
Break – sponsored by Johnson Lambert & Co |
Wednesday, 2:15 pm - 5:00 pm – Captive Insurance Taxation – Is the Strike Zone Narrowing?
Ballantyne, Fairway Ballroom
The taxation of captive insurance is ever evolving. Although there have been few dramatic developments
over the last year, it appears that the IRS is constricting some of the contours of acceptable arrangements.
Are these isolated actions or do they indicate a new attitude? This session will explore this question, the
proposed cell regulations and recent authorities. The panelists encourage questions from the audience,
which always makes this session more entertaining. |

Thursday, 8:00 am - 8:45 am – Developing a Meaningful Investment Program for Your Captive
Ballantyne, Fairway Ballroom
With the prospect of rising interest rates on the horizon, it is critical that captive boards fully understand
their risk profile and investment objectives so that a proper asset allocation discussion can occur with their
investment manager. Where Letters of Credit are involved, the relationship between their investment
manager and the issuing bank is important to the overall success of the investment portfolio. This session
will be conducted by a leading independent captive investment manager and a senior executive from one
of the most prominent banks involved in the captive industry. |
Thursday, 8:45 am - 10:15 am – Medicare Report
Ballantyne, Fairway Ballroom
New reporting requirements may have a profound impact on the handling of bodily injury claims and
proper case reserving to include not only indemnity payment to the injured party, but also government
demands for compensation against future related Medicare payments. This discussion will include
perspectives from a seasoned claims third party administrator as well as an actuary. |

Thursday, 11:15 am -12:00 pm – Impact of PPACA
Ballantyne, Fairway Ballroom
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) represents the single largest healthcare
reform legislation since the introduction of Medicare during the 1960’s. It will undoubtedly transform
many facets of our nation’s healthcare system. With an increasing number of captives providing
coverage of costs related to medical benefits, captive owners may be wondering how their plans
will be affected. Bill Thompson of Milliman, Inc. will present the key aspects of the PPACA and
how they may cause problems and create opportunities for the captive insurance industry. |
